Experiences of Psychotherapy
Reflections from people who have worked with me in psychotherapy, both online and in person.

Choosing a psychotherapist is difficult. Reviews can give you some sense of how other people have experienced the work we have done together.
Below, I’ve selected reviews that say something about the way I work — including the importance of understanding what lies beneath difficulties, working collaboratively, being willing to look at difficult things, and developing a deeper understanding of yourself and your life.
All reviews reflect individual experiences. Psychotherapy is different for each person, and the suitability and direction of the work depends on the individual and their circumstances.

"Working With a Male Therapist"
"I highly recommend working with Stephen, he is a very caring, patient and trustworthy person who has a wealth of knowledge that has helped to guide me in a better direction in life. I am so so grateful to him for all his help and patience. I've learned so much in the months I've been attending sessions. I was a bit unsure about going to see a male therapist at first to be honest because I thought being female that a male therapist wouldn't fully understand me but I really wish I could've found Stephen sooner. In the past I had attended sessions with a female therapist who was lovely but I always felt the work with her was very surface level, I didn't feel I was making any progress but working with Stephen has been amazing. He completely puts you at ease, the environment he's created for the sessions is very safe and I always feel much more spacious in myself after each session and having been quite an anxious person for my whole life this is a wonderful feeling. Even in between the sessions Stephen offers a lot of help and guidance. Whatever you may be struggling with in life I honestly recommend getting in touch with Stephen. I really appreciate all your help Stephen, thank you so much."

“Transformative”
"My first experience of therapy was some 11-12 years ago. I attended therapy regarding the issues I was having with anger and depression, which were affecting my relationships, my work and my overall health. Since then, I have visited 5 different therapists including Stephen.
Prior to beginning working with Stephen, I was fairly sure I was ‘always going to be this way’ and there was nothing anyone could do for me, but it is now difficult for me to put into words how beneficial this process has really been.
...If you are prepared to do the work and want to meet your issues head on, then Stephen will commit equally to helping you on your path.
...The process was more than just talking about my problems, which is why therapy had never worked for me in the past."

“Valuable Insight”
"I consider myself very lucky to have found Stephen. He is a great, attentive listener and offers extremely valuable insight during the sessions but also on his website. He identified my issues swiftly and over a period of a few months helped me to make significant changes.
Feeling safe and understood on a very deep level, I was able to access some old repressed feelings and work through them during our sessions.
The experiential work we did was really transformative, helped me not only to become conscious of certain issues but also to break through things on a deeper, emotional level. Gradually a way out started to feel possible."

“Substantial Changes”
"Stephen is an excellent therapist and, while my therapy for now has run its course, when I return to therapy, it will be to his practice. I highly recommend working with him if you are keen to make real and substantial changes in your life.
He is non-judgmental, direct, and very collaborative in his practice. He’s helped me to feel more balanced and secure, more in tune with my real self, and my life has changed significantly for the better during my time working with him."

“Insightful Resources”
"Admittedly I was nervous about seeing a therapist but Stephen is extremely good at what he does. He’s professional without making your chats with him uncomfortable. He offers help in session and also out-with your sessions with a host of insightful resources that he has taken the time to put together.
He is very clear with what support he can offer but never pushes you into anything that you’re not ready for. He has given me tools to deal with things that I often find myself referring back to.
If I ever feel the need to work on myself again I will return to Stephen without question."

“Peace and Equanimity”
"My therapy sessions with Stephen have been life changing. His many years of experience give him a wisdom and knowledge that is invaluable and his caring and warm persona immediately creates ease and trust. Stephen works collaboratively with clients, and intuitively understands what is required at any given moment during a session. I feel that Stephen has guided me towards uncovering my real self, and has given me the techniques and tools to continue my journey towards peace and equanimity going forward."

“The Right Environment”
"I’m so pleased with the work that I did with this therapist. He was perceptive and created just the right environment to help me feel safe enough to look at some painful things I felt I had to look at. I will be going back again after taking this break. Thank you again Stephen."

“A Sense of Contentment and Comfort”
"Before I found Stephen I was completely lost. I felt so alone and didn’t know who I was.
Stephen helped me deal with my traumas, showed me how to use the tools that I already had to know myself, feel my self worth and not be afraid to question the world around me.
I now feel a sense of contentment and comfort that I never had before."

“Quality”
"This is the highest quality psychotherapy you can come across in my opinion. My sessions with Stephen have given me so much clarity and courage in my life, to be who I truly am, and live my life as an empowered individual. His human and authentic approach to psychotherapy made it a profound experience, I would say the most authentic conversations I have ever had. Deeply refreshing and enlightening."

"Excellent, professional and non judgemental care. Stephen is patient, listens intently and above all he is honest and I’ve really felt like I can be truly myself in therapy sessions with him which has helped me tremendously. Highly recommended."

“A Calm Safe Space”
"Finding Stephen has been life-changing for me. He provides a calm, safe space without any judgement. I felt understood, respected and listened to. He helped me to understand what I was going through and taught me ways to accept it, work through it and be able to move on from it. He is compassionate, kind, honest and professional and I would have no problem recommending him to anyone looking for a knowledgeable and experienced psychotherapist."

Reviews are only one part of deciding whether a psychotherapist might be right for you.
What matters most is whether the way I work fits what you need, what you are trying to understand or change, and the kind of relationship you want to have with your therapist.
If you would like to explore that, you can arrange an Introductory Meeting.
